The WeChat Mini Programme for Unilife, developed by Concurrent PMS, VivaCity, and Unilife Student Accommodation, is nominated for the Smart Cross-sector Collaboration award. Designed to overcome digital barriers faced by Chinese students, the platform enables a fully native booking journey within WeChat. Students can check availability, sign contracts, and make payments seamlessly. By removing reliance on intermediaries and inaccessible Western systems, the initiative creates a transparent, student-first booking experience while giving operators direct access to key international markets.

The WeChat Mini Programme for Unilife, a joint collaboration between Concurrent PMS, VivaCity, and Unilife Student Accommodation, is a nominee for the Smart Cross-sector Collaboration award. This category recognizes partnerships that leverage smart technology and data to deliver outstanding impact. The initiative addresses the significant digital and cultural barriers faced by Chinese students when booking accommodation from behind the "Great Firewall." By developing a fully native booking and contract journey within the WeChat ecosystem, the collaboration replaces fragmented, intermediary-led processes with a seamless, end-to-end digital experience that meets students within their own primary communication and commerce environment.

In the short term, the project’s objective is to provide Chinese students with a transparent, secure, and user-friendly platform for securing housing. This innovation eliminates the need for external aggregators or traditional Western booking systems, which are often slow or inaccessible in China. The integration between Concurrent PMS’s booking technology and VivaCity’s WeChat platform allows for real-time availability checks, secure contract signing, and integrated payments. This immediately improves the student journey by reducing the stress and uncertainty associated with international relocation, while providing Unilife with a direct, data-rich channel to engage with a key demographic without relying on third-party intermediaries.

Looking toward the future, the long-term objective is to establish a new market entry model for the Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) sector. Instead of expecting international students to adapt to domestic systems, this project demonstrates the power of meeting students within their unique digital ecosystems to build long-term trust and brand ownership.
